Privacy at the NCCoE

Privacy is a priority for many of the organizations in the sectors and technologies areas where the NCCoE collaborates. The NCCoE privacy site provides a centralized location for our resources that address privacy.

Privacy Guidelines and Resources

Overview

Each project team at the NCCoE evaluates whether and how privacy fits into the scope of the challenges it is addressing.  The NCCoE demonstrates how available standards and technologies can be applied to manage privacy risk by:

  • Emphasizing the role that privacy plays in the sectors and technologies areas that we work.
  • Highlighting specific aspects of our solutions that mitigate privacy risks.
  • Working with communities to develop Privacy Framework Community Profiles.

Cybersecurity and privacy are independent and separate disciplines, though they share some common objectives. The Venn diagram illustrates the relationship between cybersecurity and privacy risks, showing both where they overlap and where they are distinct. Both cybersecurity and privacy inform a comprehensive approach to managing organizational risk.

Examples of NCCoE resources that include privacy discussions can be found at Privacy Guidelines and Resources.   Click below to learn more about the relationship between cybersecurity and the tools we use to discuss privacy in our work.
