NCCoE-Industry Collaboration Receives RSA Innovation Award

A team composed of members from NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), Intel, and RSA is the recipient of the 2013 Innovation Award from RSA for their proof of concept and implementation of “Trusted Geolocation in the Cloud.” The implementation uses RSA Archer commercial enterprise and risk management solutions and dashboard/reporting and integration functionality to demonstrate that a compute node in a virtualized environment can be measured at launch time, continuously monitored and have its physical location and level of compliance determined, thus helping businesses feel confident in the security of virtual machines in a hosted infrastructure and cloud technology.

The Trusted Geolocation implementation is one of the NCCoE’s “Building Blocks,” which demonstrate a solution that is applicable across many business sectors. The team has begun work on Trusted Geolocation in the Cloud version 2, which will expand its capabilities.

Intel and RSA are National Cybersecurity Excellence Partners, joining other companies that have pledged hardware, software and expertise to NCCoE's efforts to accelerate the adoption of secure technologies by American businesses.

NCCoE’s Murugiah Souppaya and Michael Bartock, RSA’s Tarik Williams, and Intel’s Kevin Fiftal and Raghuram Yeluri were honored at the 2013 RSA Archer GRC Summit in Washington, DC, in June. The Trusted Geolocation in the Cloud implementation will be published as NIST Interagency Report 7904.
