The NCCoE is inviting comments from industry on two proposed use cases detailing cybersecurity challenges faced by the financial services sector. Resolving these challenges will provide a set of tools to improve the security of financial networks and systems by providing comprehensive IT asset management and unified access control mechanisms.

Cybersecurity companies in Montgomery County will be eligible for tax credits starting next year as part of the county’s mission to become a national hub for companies that sell cybersecurity products to the private sector. The new credit comes as Montgomery County is set to become home to the recently created National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, a joint effort with the National Institute of Standards and Technology aimed at devising solutions to pressing cybersecurity concerns.

Yesterday the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released a preliminary draft of the cybersecurity framework in preparation for the fourth workshop on September 11-13, 2013 in Richardson, Texas.

Hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas, the workshop is a forum for members of industry to provide feedback on the draft framework. Draft materials are available on the NIST website and participants are asked to review them prior to the workshop.

Innovation is imperative as agencies advance their use of technology. Under the direction of Charles Romine, the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s IT Laboratory (ITL) is designed to promote innovation and enhance security.

Romine spoke with FedTech managing editor Matt McLaughlin about the work ITL is doing to meet this mission, as its scientists explore a wide variety of technologies, including cloud computing, electronic voting, smart grid, homeland security applications and health IT.

Based near NIST's Gaithersburg, Md., headquarters, the center started off as a concept but over the last year has grown into a hive of activity.

  • Data Aggregation and Monitoring
