Tripwire and CA Technologies are the two most recent National Cybersecurity Excellence Partners (NCEP), joining eleven other companies that have pledged to help accelerate the adoption of secure technologies by U.S. businesses. 

NCEP partners contributions’ range from providing the hardware to create test environments in our labs, to software for integrating into solutions, to co-locating personnel as guest researchers to work onsite at the NCCoE.

The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence will sponsor "Principled Defenses: The 2014 Cybersecurity Innovation Forum," January 28 to 30 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Members of the National Security Agency, Department of Homeland Security, and NIST will participate. The forum will cover the existing threat landscape, provide presentations on current and emerging practices, technologies and standards, and involve scenario-based exercises and formulation of a public-private roadmap.

Today a Federal Register notice announced NIST's intention to sponsor a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) to help the NCCoE address industry's needs most efficiently. When established, this will be the first FFRDC founded by the Department of Commerce and the only one in the nation devoted to cybersecurity. Learn more from the NIST press release.

Yesterday afternoon, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, Governor Martin O'Malley, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and General Keith Alexander, Director of the National Security Agency, joined the NCCoE and our colleagues for the inaugural signing of National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnerships (NCEP). Patrick Gallagher, Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, served as master of ceremonies for the event.

The NCCoE has extended the deadline for submission of certification letters for organizations who are interested in the Secure Exchange of Electronic Health Information Demonstration Project. We'll accept certification letters on an ongoing basis. NIST Director Pat Gallagher will testify today at a joint hearing before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs at 2:30 p.m. on The Cybersecurity Partnership Between the Private Sector and Our Government: Protecting our National and Economic Security. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) today issued a Request for Information (RFI) in the Federal Register as its first step in the process to develop a Cybersecurity Framework, a set of voluntary standards and best practices to guide industry in reducing cyber risks to the networks and computers that support critical infrastructure vital to the nation's economy, security and daily life. Nate Lesser, the NCCoE deputy director, will be at CyberMaryland’s RSA Expo Booth (#216) from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm to present the center’s 2013 strategy and discuss recent milestones in the Secure Exchange of Electronic Health Information Demonstration Project (HITS). Nate will describe the HITS Use Case for Mobile Devices and talk about how organizations can participate and contribute. He will also take questions.
