The event takes place in New Orleans from March 3-7, 2013, and brings together healthcare professionals to explore topics affecting the industry, including health information exchange (HIE). The HIE symposium will review HIEs that have progressed post-HITECH and how HIE overlaps with national, state and local healthcare initiatives. The HIE Roundtable will focus participants on key questions in electronic information exchange including vendors, capabilities and meaningful use.

The NCCoE is collaborating with NIST’s cloud computing experts to enforce geolocation restrictions and secure shared cloud servers. On January 14, 2013, the center will host a workshop to explore hands-on, proof-of-concept implementation designed to address the challenges associated with cloud computing.

NCCoE Director Donna Dodson wrote a guest blog post on the U.S. Department of Commerce website describing the NCCoE and how it will operate industry to address today’s cybersecurity problems. She explained the center’s unique approach to use cases where team members “work together to identify objectives and create opportunities for collaborative leadership among technology and business communities.” Read the whole post.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) today announced a new partnership to establish the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, a public-private collaboration for accelerating the widespread adoption of integrated cybersecurity tools and technologies. The State of Maryland and Montgomery County, Md., are co-sponsoring the center with NIST, which will work to strengthen U.S. economic growth by supporting automated and trustworthy e-government and e-commerce.
