USA: NCCoE Publishes Final Energy Sector Cybersecurity Guide

The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence ('NCCoE') at the National Institute of Standards and Technology ('NIST') published, on 26 May 2020, its final cybersecurity practice guide ('the Guide') that aims to enhance the energy sector's asset management capabilities for operational technology. In particular, the Guide is an updated version of the draft that was released last year and addresses a number of characteristics of asset management including asset discovery, asset identification, asset visibility, asset disposition, and alerting capabilities. In addition, the Guide aims to help organisations reduce cybersecurity risk and potentially reduce the impact of safety and operational risks such as power disruption and respond faster to security alerts through automated cybersecurity event capabilities.
