Juniper Networks, Red Hat and Lumeta are the latest companies to become National Cybersecurity Excellence Partners. These organizations have pledged their hardware, software and expertise to the development of standards-based, example solutions to the intractable cybersecurity challenges faced by U.S. businesses. They join 16 other IT market leaders in supporting the mission of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at NIST.

A notice today at FedBizOpps.gov "provides portions of a Draft Request for Proposals (RFP) for non-commercial services posted in accordance with FAR 15.201 for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This notice is posted in regards to the proposed establishment of a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) to support the mission of the NIST, National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE)."

The NCCoE is inviting comments from industry on two proposed use cases detailing cybersecurity challenges faced by the financial services sector. Resolving these challenges will provide a set of tools to improve the security of financial networks and systems by providing comprehensive IT asset management and unified access control mechanisms.

Yesterday the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released a preliminary draft of the cybersecurity framework in preparation for the fourth workshop on September 11-13, 2013 in Richardson, Texas.

Hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas, the workshop is a forum for members of industry to provide feedback on the draft framework. Draft materials are available on the NIST website and participants are asked to review them prior to the workshop.

The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence welcomes Palo Alto Networks as the latest National Cybersecurity Excellence Partner (NCEP). Palo Alto joins with 14 other NCEP partners in a pledge to accelerate the adoption of secure solutions by U.S. businesses.

The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence invites comments on two technical descriptions, or use cases, of cybersecurity challenges faced by the energy sector:

  • Identity and Access Management
  • Data Aggregation and Monitoring

NIST Director Pat Gallagher will testify today at 2:30 p.m. before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. The hearing, titled “The Partnership Between NIST and the Private Sector: Improving Cybersecurity,” is Director Gallagher's fifth appearance before the Senate to discuss NIST's collaboration with industry on standards and best practices for the protection of information technology in critical infrastructure.
