NCCoE Security Engineer Josh Franklin will present NIST's Mobile Security Best Practices & Guidelines at the 4th Annual Mobile Security for Defense and Government Summit in Arlington, VA at the AUSA Conference Center on June 7 from 9am to 9:40am. This presentation will explore breaking down the Mobile Threat Catalogue (MTC) and how to identify the greatest areas of need for protecting vulnerable mobile device networks; current NIST Guidelines for Mobile Device Management platforms; and moving towards a secure mobile enterprise.
Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Branch Chief at the Cybersecurity Assurance Branch, Martin Stanley, and Lead System Engineer James J. Quinn will discuss and demonstrate the DHS and NCCoE generic Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) instance. Registration is now open for the 2017 Cybersecurity Framework workshop at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. This workshop will offer participants the opportunity to share and learn about Cybersecurity Framework users’ experiences that will help others to make effective use of the Framework; discuss and exchange views about proposed updates to the Framework to assist NIST in finalizing Version 1.1 later in 2017; and learn about new Framework-related policy issues and the progress of technical work.

NCCoE security engineer Chris Brown will present at a roundtable discussion at MobileIron Live on Wednesday, May 10 from 3:30p.m. to 5p.m. In this session, he will demonstrate how derived PIV credentials can be added to mobile devices for remote authentication to information technology systems in operational environments while meeting information security policy guidelines.
The NCCoE will present at Tripwire's Washington, D.C. User Group meeting on May 4 from 8am-1pm at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center. Tripwire customers will share success stories and engage in discussions on current security and compliance issues.
IBM Center for the Business of Government, GWU Center for Cyber and Homeland Security (CCHS) and NIST are partnering to host a CISO Leadership Summit on May 3, 2017 at the IBM Center for the Business of Government in Washington, DC. The Summit is designed to bring federal and commercial CISOs, as well as the cybersecurity senior practitioners in academia, standards and research organizations together to have open dialogue on their challenges, lessons learned, best practices and innovation. The participating CISOs will gain insights from their peers’ practice experiences and techniques to overcome challenges.
Recent, high-profile hotel hacks have brought increasing attention to the hospitality sector and its cybersecurity challenges. While hospitality organizations have long supported the internal flow of information and data (e.g. allowing a hotel guest to charge dinner from the hotel restaurant to his/her room), technological improvements and customer demands have pushed hotels to offer increasing amenities, such as free Wi-Fi or mobile check-in. Through collaboration with the hospitality industry, the NCCoE is developing an example solution to help organizations strengthen the security of their property management system to better protect the business against network intrusion, data breach, fraud loss, and damage to reputation, while continuing to allow customers and guests to utilize and appreciate a hotel’s technological amenities.
